Welcome to Port Saint Lucie, Florida
Port Saint Lucie, Florida, also known as “A City for All Ages,” is located on the East coast of Florida, about 130 miles south of Orlando, 50 miles North of West Palm Beach and about an hour drive East from Lake Okeechobee.
The rapidly expanding community of Port Saint Lucie, Florida was founded only in 1958 and became a city in 1961. Famous Florida developers caught site of this wondrous area and decided, with great foreshadowing, this would be a place people would love to live. Around 1970 the population of Port Saint Lucie was a mere 330 people. Over the years word got out and in 1996 the population had grown to around 73,000 and in 2008 it was estimated at 151,000! Clearly, this city has something to offer to everyone!
Begin your exploration of Port Saint Lucie by taking a turn on one of the area golf courses including PGA Golf Club, Sandpiper Golf Club, and Spanish Lakes Golf Village. Sign up for a class at one of the area recreation centers where all kinds of classes are offered for all ages and abilities. The New York Mets have their spring training in Port Saint Lucie. Check them out for an afternoon while they are in town at Thomas J. White Stadium. Make a quick drive to the beach for some quality Florida sun and beach time, or down to Stuart for extraordinary fishing.
Port St. Lucie is rapidly becoming a hub for the Bio-Tech Industry. The Torrey Pines Institute for Molecular Studies recently built a new multi-million dollar facility and now the Portland-based Vaccine and Genetherapy Institute will be adding a $60 Million research facillity in Port St. Lucie as well. The medical research industry is a welcome addition to the economy of St. Lucie County and will bring many high-tech jobs to the area.
Also expanding is the Treasure Coast Campus of Florida Atlantic University. FAU just released plans to DOUBLE the size of its Port St. Lucie Campus - perhaps readying itself and our community for the new jobs that will be created!
Nationally, Port St. Lucie is ranked in the top 20 percent of cities with the lowest crime rate. This makes the city a choice location for anyone wanting to get away from the ever-growing crime rate of the inner cities and now, even the suburbs. Port St. Lucie's planned communities offer safe ares to work, play and live while being close to all that the Treasure Coast has to offer.
Despite the ever broadening nature of Port Saint Lucie, a young family or a retiring couple can still find a place to call home. Single-family homes are very affordable starting from $70,000 and condominiums starting at $50,000. The high-end market, mostly on the Indian River, is steady at a range between $500,000 and $5 million. Yes, there truly is something for everyone in Port Saint Lucie!
